About Artist Becky Loyd

Becky is a native Iowan artist who learned to fish at an early age from her father and grandmother.  Her company name comes directly from the cattail lined stream that meandered through their family farm, and where she developed her strong bond with nature.
Becky’s sense of color and thread design was spurred by years of working in textiles where she earned her BS in textile chemistry.

Married to a long time fly fisherman and learning the rod building trade from Greg Buckendahl, a nationally known custom rod builder, she honed her unique skills into her love for the craft.

Today Becky is active in the Custom Rod Builders Guild where she can often be found teaching and searching out new applications and innovations.

Becky’s rods are individually crafted in limited numbers, not mass produced, so every rod becomes a show piece rod that can be handed down for generations.  Whether your rod hangs over your fireplace mantle, or leans against the gunnels of your boat, you will be glad you chose a Buffalo Creek Rod.
When not in Iowa City where she lives with her loving husband, Bob, and their extremely good looking Labrador, Madison (yes, named after the great fly fishing river), Becky and Bob can be found traveling the north woods and western mountains as they search for the perfect lake or stream.
